Jesus Sanctifies

← back to all weeks

1. Be Real

This is week six of adopting our new DNA rhythm. As we keep following Jesus together, we will be sanctified (that’s the Bible’s word for becoming like Jesus). Only the Holy Spirit has the power and kindness to show us how we need to grow. Take a few moments to be real with each other — How do you feel about change? Are you eager for change or do you dread it?

2. Grow Together

Jesus will go to great lengths to help you become more like him. Through his Holy Spirit, He is constantly transforming us as he sees fit. It’s our job to joyfully surrender to the process, but not to see it through to completion — He does that. When we act like our main priority is to self-improve, we start flirting with exhaustion and despair. Instead, followers of Jesus learn to surrender our day-to-day to God.

Read this together: Hebrews 12:7-11

It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

How is God making you more like Jesus now? Does this growth feel good or is it painful? Can you see where God is taking you?

3. Next Steps

What should sanctified people do?

We who are being sanctified should repent — and joyfully so — we make every effort to see change happen in our lives, knowing that the indwelling Holy Spirit and enduring promises of Christ guarantee success. We are real with our brokenness. We posture ourselves to be all-in with the transformation process the Holy Spirit is working in us day by day. We live full of hope enabled by grace.
