The Role

What would you say you do here?

Reach’s Family Pastor will lead our efforts to make disciples of the next generation. They will oversee the entire Family and Next Generation ministries at Reach, acting as a shepherd, advocate, and champion for families.

This is a senior role within Reach’s pastoral team that is responsible for the overall vision, leadership, strategy, promotion, and execution of Reach’s commitment to families and the next generation of young people from birth through College. In addition, the Family Pastor will partner with the Elders and Executive Director in shepherding the church as a whole. This includes preaching/teaching, providing pastoral care, visitations, officiating weddings and funerals, and administering communion.

Gifts and Abilities:
  • A Passion for Discipleship. Must possess a clear conviction that all God’s people are to make disciples, including young people and families, and seek to fulfill the Great Commission.
  • A Heart for Families. Leads and lives a clear theology, philosophy, and model for making disciples in families. A passion for equipping parents to shepherd their children in their own home and spread the Gospel in their everyday lives.
  • A Missionary Heart. Desires for kids, students, and families to experience the Gospel and become integrated with all ages in the Church.
  • An aptitude for leading and casting vision for a large, cohesive ministry.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills (verbal and written), including a strong ability in public speaking, teaching, and preaching.
  • Able to build relationships with people of varying ethnicities, socio-economic levels, and generations.  A strong ability to recruit, equip, and empower people, especially volunteers, both formally and relationally.
  • Strong administrative, and organizational skills. Ability to organize, inspire, and mobilize a ministry team, budgeting acumen, and ensure that all projects are done correctly, thoroughly, and with precision.
Experience & Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree and Seminary Degree / Master’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • in a related field strongly preferred.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • Significant leadership or management experience, in a church setting or otherwise, is preferred.
Personal Characteristics:
  • A commitment to the vision and mission of the church.
  • A lifestyle congruent with the biblical requirements for leaders.
  • A personal history of involvement in the life of a church.

Your Core Responsibilities

What does success look like for this position?

Lead the Reach Family & Next Gen Team
  • Develop, communicate, and cast the vision for Reach’s Family and Next Gen ministries, and align with the overall mission, vision, values, and strategies of the church.
  • Foster a cohesive partnership across Kids, Youth, and College/Young Adult ministries, as well as church-wide ministries and programming.
  • Establish objectives, goals, and action plans for Kids, Youth, and College, as well as Family/Parent resourcing.
  • Invest in recruiting and developing the Staff and volunteer Kids, Youth, and College/Young Adult Teams. Provide opportunities for learning, equipping, and growth.
  • Serve as a meaningful voice at our Sunday gatherings, which includes preaching, teaching, and facilitating services. Assist the Teaching Pastor in preaching responsibilities.
Lead Family Discipleship at Reach
  • Be a shepherd to the families at Reach through equipping and providing discipleship opportunities for families/parents to be the primary disciple-makers of their children.
  • Equip parents and grandparents for effective spiritual direction of their family, and for the spiritual formation of their children at all ages and stages.
  • Engage with the local community to serve families that aren’t a part of our church yet.
  • Build community and organize opportunities for families to worship, have fun, and grow spiritually together.
Oversee Kids Ministry
  • Lead the Kids Team to create an engaging, biblically-based, and Spirit-filled Kids' Church for Birth - 6th grade.
  • Create safe environments and opportunities for kids and families to feel loved and accepted.
Lead Youth Ministry
  • Create engaging discipleship environments for Middle School and High School students for them to be transformed by Jesus.
  • Teach the Bible with relevance and clarity in both Middle School and High School ministries.
  • Recruit, train, equip, and care for Student Ministry leaders.
  • Identify and develop opportunities to engage students in missional living and service.
  • Offer pastoral care to students and parents.
Oversee College, Interns, & Young Adults Ministry
  • Equip the College Team to create engaging discipleship environments for College students and young adults to be transformed by Jesus.
