Intimacy

Lent, Week Six: March 17 - March 23

Sunday, March 17

Read Scripture: Psalm 51:1-12

Prayer Prompt

Pray for the salvation of the lost and for God to reach the nations.

Monday, March 18

Read Scripture: Psalm 51:1-12, Hebrews 1:1-4

Explanation + Reflection

After David had sinned with Bathsheba, he penned this Psalm. His heart is overflowing with devotion to the Lord and a plea for God to create in David a heart that is upright. Jesus has made a way for us to invite God into our hearts; intimacy with God doesn’t have to be intimidating but a beautiful journey in relationship.

Journal Prompt

What does the intimacy of God feel like to you? What do you think about it?

Tuesday, March 19

Read Scripture: Psalm 51:1-12, Luke 24:13-35

Explanation + Reflection

When Jesus meets the men on the road to Emmaus, they don’t “see” who he is. But as Jesus explains the scriptures in reference to himself, the men experience a burning in their hearts that speaks to the work of the Spirit on their hearts.

Journal Prompt

What areas of your life do you burn for God? What areas do you want to burn for God?

Wednesday, March 20

Join Prayer + Worship today from Noon-1pm

In-person at the Reach Offices or tune in on your lunch hour via our livestream on YouTube.

Read Scripture: Psalm 51:1-12, John 17:20-26

Explanation + Reflection

Jesus longs to be one with us as He is one with the Father. He longs for us to experience the love the Father has for us, just as He experiences God’s love. Think of that! Jesus praying that Father God would show His love to us the same way Jesus himself experiences the love of the Father!

Journal Prompt

Can you receive the love of our heavenly Father? Why or why not?

Thursday, March 21

Read Scripture: Psalm 51:1-12, Psalm 139

Explanation + Reflection

God has formed us from conception with His very own hands. Rather than speaking us into life by His words, He chooses to get into it with us and form us Himself.

Journal Prompt

Can you enter yourself into Psalm 139 and believe that God was this intentional about you? Try it and journal what the experience is like.

Friday, March 22

Read Scripture: Psalm 51:1-12, Hebrews 10:19-25

Explanation + Reflection

God has given us full access to Him by the power of the blood of Jesus. Now we can draw near to Him with a “full heart in full assurance of faith” because He paid the price. Not only that, we can be encouraged in the faith by one another as we walk through life!

Journal Prompt

What circumstances, prayer needs, longings, aches, joys, etc. in your life do you feel like you haven’t given God full access to? Since we can have a full heart and assurance in our faith, can you give access to Him in prayer today?

Saturday, March 23

Read Scripture: Psalm 51:1-12, Proverbs 4:20-27; Philippians 4:4-7

Explanation + Reflection

Life is hard and circumstances threaten to steal peace and joy from us. When this happens, we can be assured that our access to our Father has not changed, we can return to Him in prayer and reading of the Word, and we can pray for a steadfast and faithful heart as we follow Him.

Journal Prompt

Write down some places in your life that need a fresh injection of peace and joy. Write a prayer using Philippians 4:4-7 as a guide, giving God praise, praying your heart, lifting up gratitude to Him, and receive His peace to guard your thoughts and emotions.
