Is heaven real? Is Jesus the only way to get there? Pastor Britt unpacks beautiful truths about what's to come to give us hope right where we are.

Let's study together.

Read

John 14:1-7

1 “Don’t let your heart be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, so that where I am you may be also. 4 You know the way to where I am going.”

5 “Lord,” Thomas said, “we don’t know where you’re going. How can we know the way?”

6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you know me, you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

Some key statements and questions put forward that are important for us to talk about…

Examine

"What will heaven be like?...

  • Do you struggle to believe that heaven is real?
  • The Bible says that heaven will be like paradise (Luke 23:43). If it is real, what did Pastor Britt say that resonated with you most about it?
  • There are "many rooms in heaven". In a season of stay-at-home orders, does the idea of being together in God's house bring you joy?

"What will we be like in heaven?"

  • We will have full and resurrected bodies.
  • We will have intellect and emotions.
  • We will have a redeemed understanding about work. Truth will be told. Motives will always be clear.
  • We will have full, unobstructed access to Jesus.
  • Heaven is going to be thrilling.
  • Which of these excites you or surprises you the most?

“Heaven is not our default destination."

  • Pastor Britt explained how our default destination is hell, which is separation from God. How do you process that?
  • Hell will be agonizing and boring without accomplishment or significance. No friendship, no community. Have you heard hell described that way before?
  • How would you explain hell to someone if they asked you about it?

Apply

Is faith in Jesus the only way to heaven? Do you believe Jesus is "the way" to heaven? If this is hard for you to believe, share those doubts.

Jesus is making a way for us. Heaven needs no improvement. It has been prepared for you. Does this stir joy in you?

He has made us right with our dad. In heaven, we leave a dim, earth-bound relationship with Jesus (1 Cor. 13:12) for a clear, face-to-face friendship. Does the idea of a perfect place or a perfect Person make heaven most attractive?

Act

Hell is a real place. Say this out loud: I am made for eternal relationship with Jesus.

Do not let your hearts be troubled. Say this out loud: Jesus has overcome the world. I am in good company with him. My heart is safe.

I have been made right with my heavenly Father. Say this out loud: Jesus made a way so I can be with my Father forever.

Amen.
