This is our last week working through the Five-S Gospel. We’ve learned that Jesus Saves, Sustains, Sanctifies, and Satisfies us. Today, we’re asking the question “Now what?” Everyone is looking for purpose. We want our time spent, hard work and creative energy to have meaning.
Perhaps you feel stuck at work, at school, or you’re are a mom who could just go for some grown-up time. When Jesus brings us into his family, we are joining a global team of people spanning history who have an incredible job description: make disciples, help heal the word. Wherever we find ourselves, do you think it’s possible God has placed us here and now for any particular reason?
Read this together:
Matthew 28:18-20
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
2 Corinthians 5:20
Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us.
What do you love to do? Do you see the potential connection between your unique wiring and what God is doing in the world? How does Jesus intend to put your unique gifts to work?
What should sent people do?
We get to love people and do stuff we love to do — all on God’s behalf! When God’s mission collides with our wiring, even the most mundane things become full of beautiful purpose.
We bear and reflect the image of God in every part of society and culture — we will care for the widow, the orphan, the forgotten, and the persecuted, bringing God’s justice and kindness where it has not been before — we’ll make disciples of all nations, baptizing them and teaching them to obey, so they might know the same joy they’ve received.
And we’ll do our jobs well; we’ll raise families, we’ll do solid homework, we’ll throw good parties all so that people get glimpse of how much God loves them.
